The molecular laboratory utilizes PCR based techniques which are applied for the identification and typing of bacteria, viruses and mycoplasmas. PCR identification techniques can be performed on pure cultures of microorganisms or directly on clinical samples. Genotyping and molecular serotyping techniques based on PCR or sequencing procedures are applied to various microorganisms.
Our molecular techniques are based on international peer reviewed publications, or developed in house according to specific criteria required from the technique. All techniques are tested and validated on locally isolated pathogens. This reduces the risk of generating false negative results due to differences within the genetic target site that is related to its international geographical distribution.
